When I was a young child I would look up at the sky and tell my mom that my people would be coming back for me. And my wildly eccentric mother would reply “Oh well that will be wonderful.” I’d also tell her I didn’t understand humans. To which she’d reply “Neither do I.”
Although no one ever came to pick me up, that I know of, lol, I did spend much of my life wondering what the hell I was supposed to be doing. I was trying to figure “it” all out. I think we can all relate to this feeling at one point or another in our lives. I would find myself wishing I had some type of user manual to navigate my experience.
Now I will preface by saying, I believe when we are non-physical we drop all kinds of gems into the Universe to help guide us once we get here in our human form. Some of those stay fairly intact and evolve with humanity, some get bastardized and some get forgotten altogether. My gem was the chakra system. And when I discovered it, it was as if a new world opened up inside of me. One author I love reading explained it as a guide to our internal world that no one ever talks about. I liken it to a road map that covers all the internal and external areas of our worlds. No matter where we are in our life, the chakras offer us a perspective on our experiences.
I’ve worked with the chakras for so long, I forget that not everyone knows about them. But for the sake of this article, I will assume you are familiar with the 7 basic chakras. As those are what I will be referencing. As I studied and then put into practice what I learned, a new layer would open up to me. You see, chakras are energy, they are dynamic, and the only real way to understand the chakras is to work with them in your everyday life.
As I went on my journey of life, both the physical and spiritual experiences, I saw more and more how the chakras really did apply to all we do. And through my own contemplation and then confirmation through others’ work, I realized that the chakras offer us a perspective from different levels of consciousness. Seeing how we are energetic beings, vibrating on different frequencies, made so much sense to me. We exist on multiple levels, but choose to place our awareness (consciousness) on a certain level for a certain experience. This realization helped free me to not feel stuck in any circumstance. I knew that just like on a ladder or in an elevator, I could move my awareness up and down, so to speak, to access different levels of consciousness.
I started using a visual I call the condo of consciousness. I’m sure I didn’t come up with this on my own, but I can’t remember the source. Either way, it gave me and my clients a great visual for understanding. When you are in the penthouse (Crown Chakra) you have a much broader view than when you are on the ground floor (Root Chakra).
One of the biggest things that trip spiritual people up is thinking they need to be in their highest level of consciousness all the time. This thinking robs us of our ability to really experience our human existence. Once we become integrated, we can move freely and with awareness through different levels of consciousness, choosing the best one to be at for our current experience. If a tiger is chasing me, I sure do want to be focused in my physical level of consciousness so I can scream and run my butt off! Just like when I’m meditating I want to be solely in my unified level of consciousness, absorbing that sweet pure Source energy.
So my life and thus my life’s work has been bringing this tool into the awareness of others.
Let’s get back to that condo of consciousness.
Below I’ll list the chakra and its level of consciousness.
Root Chakra – Physical Level of Consciousness
Sacral Chakra – Emotional Level of Consciousness
Solar Plexus Chakra – Ego Level of Consciousness
Heart Chakra – Social Level of Consciousness
Throat Chakra – Creative Level of Consciousness
Third Eye Chakra – Global Level of Consciousness
Crown Chakra – Universal Level of Consciousness
Earth Star and Soul Star Chakras – Unified Level of Consciousness*
*These are two “modern chakras” that I love working with. But don’t worry if you haven’t heard of them.
When you are in the condo of consciousness, most of our daily, physical life happens in the Root Chakra Physical Level. So many experiences we have here can be magnified, resolved, expanded upon when we view them through another chakra level. Let’s take your relationship with your spouse. When we experience it through each new level it adds another layer. Let’s look at our relationship with our spouse, through the chakras as follows
In the Root Chakra, you have the physical experience, this ranges from intimacy to financial security.
In the Sacral Chakra, you have the emotional experience, this is how you feel about yourself in regards to your spouse, how you feel about your spouse, and all the emotions one experiences when in a relationship with another.
In the Solar Plexus, you have the ego experience, this is how you view yourself in your relationship, what role you play, who you are, and how you project yourself to others. This is also where all your mental activity takes place, what do you think about x.y,z.
In the Heart Chakra, you have the social experience, this is how you interact with others in regards to your relationship. And also how much love you choose to bring into the relationship and receive from it.
In the Throat Chakra, you have creative experience, this is mainly where you create your life through your words, how do you speak about your relationship to yourself and others.
In the Third Eye Chakra, you have the global experience, this is where you know to see yourself and your relationship in the bigger picture of life. How are you as a couple showing up in the world, those types of things?
In the Crown Chakra, you have the unified experience, plain and simple you see yourself, your spouse, and all others, through the eyes of Source.
This is a very simplified journey through the chakras, but I trust you get the picture. No matter what your experience or relationship is the chakras can help you navigate the journey. For example, in regards to your spouse, if you aren’t feeling appreciated, that’s a Solar Plexus experience, as it pertains to how you see yourself (ego). With this awareness, you can choose to balance the energy here, by reframing the situation and how you perceive yourself in the experience. Or you can shift out of that chakra all together. You can move down and get in touch with your emotions around it or you can move up and view it from a more heart-centered space. Either way, you always have options for another perspective with the chakras.
This was really a crash course, but I hope you found some value in it. Most people ask me where to start. The only place you can, right where you are. By that I mean, what is the most blatant, obvious experience that is in your life right now that you’d like to work with. And working with can mean bringing it into a neutral, balanced place or milking an already good-feeling experience. Whatever you do, have fun with it!
