It is that time of year again, time for the old energies of 2023 to leave and the new energies for 2024 to arrive. I always feel excited as February 4th approaches, because it is an important date in the ‘feng shui world’. I know so many people who have had a bad 2023, especially with family health, me included. This is the time to wipe the slate clean and start again with a blank page.
Placing feng shui remedies and activations in the correct sectors of your home or business can help reduce the negative impact and activate the positive energies for the year ahead. The energies are always more powerful as they enter the year and leave, so the sooner you put your remedies in place the better. This year I will personally ensure all my activations and remedies are in place by the end of January. There are two important Feng Shui dates to be aware of; the date you should have your remedies and activations in place by (Feng Shui New Year) and the other date is Chinese New Year.
Feng Shui New Year – Sunday 4th February, 2024
Chinese New Year – Year of the Wood Dragon – Saturday 10th February, 2024
All cures and activations should be in place by February 4th, then it is time to declutter, space clear, and prepare for Chinese New Year. If you miss both dates, then please go ahead and place the remedies and activations as soon as you can. It’s always the same date every year that the feng shui remedies and activations have to be in place (4th February) regardless of when the Chinese New Year celebrations begin.

Choose just one option for each sector from the chart below. When placing the remedies and activations please ensure you place them with the intention of remedying the yearly affliction or activating the positive energy. There are three main areas to focus on in your home, they are your bedroom (you spend a lot of your time here), front door (this is where the energy enters your home), and office (if you work from home, you will also spend a lot of time in this sector too).
2024 ENERGIES
NORTH – 8 Wealth Star (Success, Windfall, Happiness)
Activate: Add lights, images that represent wealth, success, good fortune, or water images. Water figurines are great here, e.g. fish, frogs, or turtles are perfect. Water fountains here are perfect too this year.
NORTH EAST – 6 Abundance Star (Windfalls, Good Fortune, Great Career Luck for Women)
Activate: Add lots of crystals, metal, a wealth bowl, 6 smooth crystal balls, a statue of Kwan Kungor, or metal objects like a wind-chime. The best activator to have here is a chiming clock with real metal bells.
EAST – 1 Abundance Star (Career Opportunity & Income)
Activate: Add water element in this sector. For example: Conch Shell, Colors Navy Blue, Black, White, or Gray, Water Features or water images are wonderful here too. You can also place a Kwan Kung figure here or a Tortoise.
SOUTH EAST – 2 Illness Star (Health Issues)
Remedy: Place a Brass Wu Lou, a metal object, 6 Chinese coins, or a metal wind-chime here. If this sector is your kitchen and you have a gas stove here, place a large urn of water close to the stove to dampen the effects of this energy. If this is your bedroom or a closet, keep the door closed as much as possible to keep that negative energy locked away.
The Grand Duke resides here in 2024. DON’T sit and face this direction (112.5° – 127.5°). No noise or renovations. Avoid red colors, open flames, or candles in this sector.
SOUTH – 7 Violence Star (Injury, Fraud, Theft, Cuts)
Remedy: Add a blue rhino or an elephant figure here. You can also add an evil eye or the color blue to dampen this energy. Maybe add 3 lucky bamboo in water. Keep an eye on bank accounts for fraud and be extra vigilant locking your windows and doors. Putting your remedies in place will reduce this energy significantly. The 3 Killings resides here (135°— 225°). DON’T sit with your back in this direction and keep the area quiet. If this area is your front door, keep it well-lit.
SOUTH WEST – 9 Fame Star (Success, Promotion, Recognition)
Activate: Add an image of a horse or bird. You can add red colors, love objects, or love images. Flowers are perfect here too.
WEST – 5 Disaster Star (Financial Loss, Illness, Injury)
Remedy: Add a 5 Element Pagoda here, a pendulum clock, metal objects, or use the colors white, gray, silver, or gold here. If this is your front door area, place a metal wind-chime & white flowers by your door. Avoid large crystals, candles, red, orange, and purple colors.
Avoid loud noises in this sector. If you can avoid using this area, then this is the best remedy, but this is not always possible. Move rooms if your bedroom is in this sector, if you can.
NORTH WEST – 4 Relationship Star (Love, Romance, Travel & Education Luck)
Activate: Add symbols of romance or education. Add beautiful crystals here, Plants especially orchids are a great activator. You can add water symbols such as a concha shell or water images. Don’t add actual water here as it can be too draining to the man of the house.
CENTRE – 3 Conflict Star (Arguments, Legal Issues, Gossip)
Remedy: A big potted plant would be beneficial here this year. Add the color red to calm the conflict energy. Add lights or candles here too. It is beneficial to have a kitchen or fireplace here this year. A gold laughing Buddha would also be ideal here. Keep this area quiet so you don’t aggravate this energy. If this sector is your front door, keep the porch light on and place a red rug at your door. Having a fireplace here or a kitchen will help to drain some of the energy out of the fight. If this sector is your lounge, then add red-colored accessories, e.g. pillows, throws, etc.
The Grand Duke resides here in 2024. DON’T sit and face this direction (112.5° – 127.5°), it is only 15 degrees off the compass, so quite easy to avoid. No noise or renovations in this sector. Avoid red colors, open flames, or candles in this sector.

How to find out where each sector falls in your home
Using the floor plan of your home or business, measure the width and length of your property & divide your floor plan into nine equal squares. Place the above Lo Shu Square over your floor plan (see example below). If your entrance door faces east, you should mark the square your door falls into as the East sector and then mark all the other sectors accordingly. Use a compass to determine the direction of your front door, you can do this by standing at the threshold of your entrance door (looking out) and take the compass reading.
THINGS TO BE AWARE OF IN 2024
NO RENOVATIONS, DIGGING, NOISE, OR CANDLES IN THE SOUTHEAST, SOUTH & WEST SECTORS AS THESE ARE THE SECTORS WITH AFFLICTIONS.
3 KILLINGS (135°— 225°)
Face this Direction. Do not sit with your back to the ‘3 Killings’. If you do, it may cause people to snipe about you behind your back or stab you in the back. You can place a laughing Buddha to face towards the south to protect you from the 3 Killings. No digging or renovations in this sector.
GRAND DUKE (112.5° – 127.5°)
Do not Face this Direction. The ‘Grand Duke’ can bring support and help if you sit with him at your back. Be sure not to sit facing him or you will face the wrath of people in a position over you. It is also essential that you do not dig or do renovations in this sector.
PLANNING MAJOR RENOVATIONS
Are you planning to do a full house renovation in 2024? Do not panic, there is a way to do this, so you will not aggravate the energies too much. The best way to go about this is to begin your renovations in an auspicious sector and then end in an auspicious sector; this will help you to reduce aggravating the energies in the sectors with the major afflictions (northwest and east sectors). The best areas to renovate this year are the east, northeast, north, and northwest.
You may feel unsettled after reading about the new energies in your home, but please do not be. Remember that everyone has their turn of good luck and not-so-good luck. Always be aware that feng shui (earth luck) is only 33.3% of your luck. Most feng shui afflictions can be remedied, giving you control of two-thirds of your luck which is wonderful: your Human Luck (your decisions – 33.3%) and your Earth Luck (feng shui – 33.3%). The final 33.3% is your Heavenly Luck (you are born into this luck, and we cannot control this, e.g., your astrological chart).

There are a few rules when you are placing your remedies and activations.
Bathrooms
If your bathroom falls in a particular sector, you do not activate it or remedy that area. The bathroom will drain the negative energy for you which is a great bonus. For example, if you have a wealth star in the sector of your bathroom, you don’t want to add the recommended items in that room to activate it. What you can do instead is activate that corresponding area of your lounge.
Bedrooms
If your bedroom falls into a sector where the activation or remedy is to place a water fountain, this is a big no-no. Water must not be placed in the bedroom as this could cause issues with your relationship, health, or finances. You could use the color blue instead.
