Over time when Mentoring Presenters and Speaking at Events, I’ve noticed my vocabulary filling with words, sentences and ideas from a place I now simply refer to as my Greatness. These are the words, sentences and ideas that have come from a place of Flow or as I prefer to label it, when one becomes a conduit for infinite wisdom. The words from here match the frequency of our Greatness.
At one time, I was sure that it was only when the words were coming directly from this place that they had that extra weight to them, like my essence was attached to them and an audience would feel the difference. I wasn’t wrong. However, what I’m further discovering is that the words that have come from this place, and I refer to ‘this’ as coming from the Heart Brain, when spoken again (re-used) on stage or camera, still have extra weight. Effectively they’re words that match the frequency of my Greatness.
The more I discover these words and phrases the more my vocabulary fills up with them, to be used again in my marketing material, presentations and everyday communication. Although they may never have the full impact like they did when they were first given life, they still hold more weight than others. The audience still feels the difference between these words and those of ‘space fillers’ born of pressure to fill silence on stage or camera.
How do I know when it’s happening to me? These words, sentences and ideas that come from the Heart Brain will never have been spoken by you before; they’re original, given life to in a perfect moment of pure authenticity. Quite often these words catch us off guard by just how good they sound, almost as if in the back of our heads we can hear ourselves thinking, “Damn, this sounds really smart right now!”
Pure Authenticity is when the self-critic dissipates because we’re lost in a state of flow, the words becoming effortless and poignant and the audience deeply connected as they witness a Presenter deep in their craft. Words and often long periods of dialogue coming from a place of yet no name but feel like our highest wisdom.
You’ve experienced this right? This happening on stage, in front of a Live Audience is my Holy Grail of Presenting. What I know is that it’s very difficult to have this experience on stage if we’re ‘Pretending’ to be someone we’re not, placing a mask on of what our fantasy or perception of what Presenting looks and feels like. The mask is a physical block to becoming a conduit for infinite wisdom. It’s also a block, a disconnect between speaker and audience, the difference between Presenting and being a Presenter.
So to discover these words, these sentences and ideas first we have to take a couple of Steps back and look at how we give ourselves the best possible opportunity to play in that space. The most important aspect for me here is shifting our Presenting from our Heads, which is the Technical, to the Heart Brain, which is more the feeling part of our craft.
To explore and learn to appreciate the space between the words and discover that this space is equally as powerful as the words themselves. This is where we go on a discovery of the subconscious or perhaps even into our own Greatness.
It’s also here that our words and ideas allow us to play at the Vanguard of ourselves, given to us by our future selves, perhaps like bread crumbs for us to follow? I often think of these breadcrumbs, when I choose not to follow them, as if my future self is looking at me in absolute disbelief, shaking his head, saying ‘You’re kidding me, I’m giving you the clues you’re asking for and you’re turning me down?’
My Methodology is based on being us at our most purest authentic selves, like the old advice goes of ‘Just Be You’ and speaking when we can from the Heart Brain within a framework. Once you’ve Presented from here you’ll never be able to go back, for you heart will tell you…No.
