I’m receiving a lot of calls from clients asking me how to deal with their fears about the Coronavirus. This has been on just about everyone’s mind and in our hearts.
The pandemic is creating feelings of uncertainty and forcing us to confront a variety of fears. It’s forcing us to rearrange our lives and make drastic changes. It’s revealing a lot about human behavior—both good and bad.
We’re seeing empty store shelves due to hoarding, yet we’re also hearing about good Samaritans sharing supplies, checking on elderly neighbors, and even serenading neighbors from their balconies. Terms such as “social distancing” and “isolate at home” have become a regular part of everyday conversation. These concepts are new to many of us and they’re changing the way we live, at least for now.
The virus of fear is perhaps even more contagious than the Coronavirus itself. We must be proactive and not get sucked into the fear that is resonating. This a time for reprogramming our thinking and finding new ways to deal with fear. Meditation, focusing on taking care of one’s basic needs, and looking out for loved ones helps. Change can be uncomfortable, especially when shadowed with thoughts of scarcity and survival. But we will get through this.
