It’s Time You Say ‘Yes’ to Your ‘Self’, Part Two

motivation-1389160_1920When it comes to self-esteem, I invite you to look at the word “self” before the word “esteem.”

Mith: Our value and worth come from others or from things and outside sources. We are taught as a society that our value and worth come from our degrees, title, bank accounts, accolades and how many people show up to our birthday party.

Remember this: It’s never about numbers, letters or dollar signs. Release the pressure valve you have on yourself. Let it go.

Picture being a child once again and simply being free. Go back to a time when you had no labels; you were just you. Imagine being just you and having nothing (yet) to do with schooling, degrees, titles or any of it. No ego involvement. If it suits you, revisit that time in your life. Join your child-like self on that beautiful field and play amongst the flowers. For a few minutes, be free of judgment of self; just be.

Powerful Invitation: for anyone who does not have a carefree memory or had a carefree childhood, here is a powerful invitation.

I invite you to re-write the script of your childhood. Visualize it differently. Imagine what it would be like to be a child, carefree, before labels, before other people’s perception of the world were put upon you before any of it.

A clean slate, a new script, play a new record. Journal it, use as much detail as possible.

Where are you? (in a field, on the playground, by the lake)
What time of year is it?
What are you wearing?
How old are you?

How do you feel that you have so much love and support from humans but more importantly universal love and support, divine essence and energy?

God Himself shows His face to you and shines down upon your little face and heart…keep going, create it and journal it, write a new script.

Next, I want you to take a few moments and get into a quiet space; somewhere without many distractions. Check in with yourself. Have you noticed throughout the day doing any of the following?

  • Negating a compliment
  • Negative self-talk
  • Not believing in yourself
  • Feeling less than
  • Comparing or contrasting yourself with others
  • Feelings of envy or jealousy toward others
  • Asking yourself if there’s something wrong with you or
  • Why does everybody else get to or have ______________? (you fill in the blank)

If so, you’re not alone. Everyone experiences these emotions and knows all-too-well the negative self-talk from ego. This negative self-talk, unfortunately, keeps us limited.

In order to be in a healthy relationship with another, we must first be in a healthy relationship with self.
