Have you ever noticed how some can hear the ocean’s roar in a large shell while others cannot. This was always a bit of mystery to me. It can be so real to some in their experience, and to others seem a joke or a game. We know now that the most likely reason ocean like (wave-like) noise is heard in the shell is actually the ambient noise from around you. The actual seashell held up to, or just above the ear actually captures this noise, which in turn resonates inside the shell. What we hear and respond to in the Spirit is directly tied to our capacity to listen. Hearing is actually the process of perceiving sounds vs. listening means to actually give one’s attention to a sound. We know in truth, one can hear and not listen. In the Word of God, it says, “let him who has an ear to hear, hear what the Spirit is saying.” Why be instructed to hear if you already have an ear to hear?
Spiritual hearing is developed, just as we learned to develop to hear sounds and then accurately expand into listening. Without the capacity to listen, one truly cannot hear. Although we hear in the natural realm, sounds (waves or frequencies), we cannot hear to the fullness of our capacity to perceive and consciously know, unless we learn to listen. To listen is to give of yourself and love yourself because you value the other and you. This is why you choose to focus on attention to what you hear. One can take notice and hear the sound, but then we have to act upon what we hear and discern or perceive in listening for us to truly receive the benefits and create a shift or change. This is especially critical in navigating life’s many sounds. Sounds are all over the natural 3D and Spirit 5D realms. You have the transcendent quality to harness wisdom, glory, honor and prosperity that is awaiting manifestation for the one who stops to listen.
Listening is something that I have learned to practice much throughout my lifetime. Christ is my example and way to developing this power. In Proverbs we see many keys to wisdom in learning to let our “ears be attentive.” It’s only when we give our attention to sound that we can harness the opportunity of discovery and enlightenment in the listening. To not have the capacity to listen is to reject your capacity to know. This is a direct tie to your self-image/self-love perceptions. We do not have to hinder ourselves in this way. We can expand and shift into a new consciousness. In times past, I thought I had heard someone, only to discover I had heard, but not listened. Approaching others, and God (Source) in the position of know this (that we need to expand in our capacity to listen), will open you up more to hearing and knowing. Giving room for developing your listening skills takes practice and intention. Here’s some tips I’ve discovered along my journey that have truly added to my capacity increasing in listening:
- Just know that you may not hear exactly what someone is saying the way they think they are communicating it. One discipline I’ve practiced often is simply confirming what I “think I understand” from hearing, back to the person, to have them confirm or readdress the variance between what was heard, vs. my capacity to listen to see if I’m accurate or not. This gauges my listening in that moment. I often say, “what I heard you say is….does that mean you are saying…?” This closes the gap quickly between the speaker and the hearer for listening to be strengthened, assured or expanded. It’s also the perfect opening to shore up any possible future misunderstandings, or reconcile in that moment any discrepancies in the hearing vs. listening.
- Another power tip is choosing to practice regular listening by being alone in the silence. There’s something very special about the sound of silence that increases our capacity to listen. This is primarily due to us hearing our own hearts and minds more clearly, which in turn will ensure we listen to others better and more clearly.
- Lastly, once I understood my listening skills needed improving, I decided to create a new manifestation by harnessing the power of focus. As we improve on focus, we harness attention, and in order to do this we automatically slow down (or at least we should). Then our perceptions are clearer (thus effecting our listening capacity and understanding), both of ourselves and others. How much more critical would this apply to listening to the unseen (Spirit) realm.
Just remember, hearing is not listening, and listening is not always absolute. Waves and frequencies are always moving, and there’s always room to create the sound of listening and shift, whether that’s you shifting, or someone else. Ultimately the Spirit is the Source of all sound and sound is always heard, but can only be optimized and created into prosperity and fullness when we listen.
