After years of self-neglect and suffering the after-effects of such treatment, I finally came face to face with the reality that for me to advance spiritually, I have to begin putting myself first to move forward and pursue my life goals. Being an empath, it’s easy to get caught up in serving others and forget me.
While focusing my attention on my Native American ancestors and their spiritual practices, I have cultivated a desire to study herbalism, the ancient practice of utilizing herbs for physical and mental healing. This sacred practice is filled with mystery and superstition and early cultures associated herbs with the unseen spirit world.
In ancient times, community members who spoke a plant’s language were highly respected and known as shamans and medicine men. Healers were known for harnessing the potent plant medicine as a way for them to gain entry into higher spiritual realms.
Science has been used to explain a lot of plant medicine to the point that there is not much left to explore. However, some people like myself are still eager to know more about the enchanting and mysterious side of herbalism. Ceremonies that involve the use of potent herbs are popular when it comes to spiritual journeys. Many people flock to faraway places and remote jungles to be led into the unknown world of herbs.
Throughout the years, plants were uses in times of war and peace. Surgeons traveling with their armies used herbs to treat their battle wounds and their flowers were featured in celebrations of nature and togetherness.
Herbs, plants, and flowers became popular among the occult over the years too. Since these sacred plants come from the earth, mystics have incorporated their grounding energy into spells and rituals. Joan of Arc was accused of witchcraft because it was discovered that she carried mandrake root around with her. Unfortunately, sacred herbs like sage have gotten a bad wrap recently from a prominent religious leader that has warned Christians not to burn sage because it promotes evil workings of witchcraft.
I have recently cultivated a new appreciation for herbs, especially herbal teas. My meditation time in the morning and at night has now become even more sacred as I look through my vast selection of teas and add beautiful whole Blue Lotus flowers and let them steep. This magical combination of herbs and flowers is now the highlight of my daily tea time rituals. I am taking note of different herbal blends that I will one day have on hand in my apothecary.
I have reduced the amount of anxiety I experienced in the past and I have also been researching herbs for relieving pain. I am slowly finding the right herbs for me and I am enjoying every moment of it. As I am exploring the power of healing herbs, I am also experiencing a deeper connection with my higher self and I am opening up my heart to heal, grow and learn as much as possible so that I can share my experience with the world around me.
With every sip of tea and every time my senses are touched with the sacredness of magical herbs, I offer up a prayer of gratitude to my divine source. My prayer is that as we all advance into a deeper awareness and consciousness of who God is, we will collectively begin to see the earth from a divine perspective and truly embrace the healing power of herbs.
