Kimberly: Welcome everybody, welcome to Spiritual Biz Chat for Spiritual Biz Magazine, I am your host, Kimberly Maska, and today we have joining us Megan Gallagher who is an Inspirational Speaker for young adults, Author & Intuition workshop leader. Megan, welcome and thank you for being with us, how are you doing today?
Megan: I’m doing great! Thank you for having me, I’m excited to be here!
Kimberly: Fantastic! So, could you share the story behind your personal journey down the path to your current life’s purpose and work, and tell us more about your business?
Megan: When I was young, I went through a lot of internal struggles( anticipatory anxiety, body image issues & low self-esteem). I definitely had a victim mindset about my issues. Also, academics never really clicked with me, so I had a feeling that school was not my path all along. After High School, I had a plan to move down to Los Angeles and attend Community College. But, halfway through, after ignoring my intuition for months-I had a big health scare, which was actually a spiritual awakening.
Kimberly: What was the turning point in taking the steps to make your passion a business? And how have you managed to turn that into a business?
Megan: After I dropped out of Community College, I went on a five-month journey of trying things and seeing what resonated. I truly just did whatever felt intuitively right. I didn’t worry about having the “perfect” plan. One time I volunteered with teen girls, and a lightbulb just went off.
So I started a self-love coaching business, where I would do one-on-one sessions with teen girls. After doing that for about seven months, I had a moment where I was meditating and felt like that wasn’t my true purpose. I wanted to try being a motivational speaker. So I made a Youtube channel, did Toastmasters and spoke at local YMCA’s. Then I had a full circle moment where I realized I wanted to speak to people my age(22) and inspire them to trust their intuition.
Kimberly: Let’s talk a bit about the books you have written, “Why Don’t I Look Like Her?”, “You Can Choose”, and “Everything Is Happening For You, Not To You”. You chose interesting titles, so what are these books about and who are they for?
Megan: “Why Don’t I Look Like Her?”, is about my experiences as a teen girl and how I dealt with uncomfortable body changes, comparison, and social media. “You Can Choose”, is about anxiety and how it shaped my childhood/teen years. I share my best tips and what helped me live with it in a healthy way.
“Everything Is Happening For You, Not To You”, is an interactive workbook on how everything in your life is happening in your favor, even the hardships. All three books are definitely in the self-help realm. They are mainly directed to teens/young adults, but anyone can read them! They are pretty relatable! I believe that the advice I share is the mindset that everyone should be taught at a young age.
Kimberly: This is very interesting, Megan, which leads me to my next question, do you think that the concept of spiritually should be introduced at schools even?
Megan: Yes! I do think that some level of academics is important, but kids/teens really need to be in classes that talk about self-love, intuition and following your dreams. Some kids really click with academics, which is great. While others don’t, which is also great. We just need a better school system that supports all types of smart and brings out each student’s talent. Also, let’s are real, learning about Pi isn’t as important as learning about trusting your intuition.
Kimberly: What kind of advice can you give to someone who’s about to write a book, wants to write a book, or has just written a book? What should be they aware of?
Megan: My advice would be two things; Don’t try to sit and force ideas for your book. That never works. The best ideas are the ones that just naturally come to you. All three of my books were written that way. Secondly; be confident in your writing, don’t base your books worth off of other’s opinions or how many copies sold.
Kimberly: Is there a final message you want to let the audience know? Or just any last little words that you have for them?
Megan: Yes! The advice I would give to the readers is let your intuition guide you. With anything in life; business, friends, partners, etc. When you are doing what you love, everything else falls into place. Pay attention to what feels like a contraction vs expansion. Also, surround yourself with people who truly care about you and are positive influences.
Kimberly: If our readers wanted to reach you, where can they find you? And where can they find your books?
Megan: I have an Instagram account, @motivational_megan, youtube channel and my website, meganwgallagher.com. All of my books are available on Amazon! I’m also currently doing intuition workshops at High Schools/Colleges!
Kimberly: Thank you, Megan, very much! It has been such a pleasure chatting with you today and learning about your work.
Megan: Thank you so much for having me!
