Moving Home? Feng Shui Tips to Help with Your Selection

Moving home is one of the most stressful times in our life and if you are buying a new home, possibly one of the most expensive purchases you will ever make.

Our heads are full of questions…

  • Is this the right area?
  • Is this home right for me?
  • Will this home be luckier than the last?
  • Will I be happy here?
  • Am I making the right decision?

Here are some Feng Shui tips to look out for which will help you with your decision.  Some of these issues can be remedied but some I would suggest you avoid completely.

EXTERIOR FENG SHUI TIPS

  1. Don’t consider a property that sits at the T-junction of a road.
  2. Don’t consider a property that is close to electricity pylons, telegraph poles or railway lines.
  3. Don’t consider a property that is opposite a graveyard/cemetery or hospital.
  4. Avoid a property that has a tree or street light directly in line with the front door, especially if the tree is protected as it can’t be cut.
  5. Don’t consider a property that has two taller properties either side of it.
E.g. A two-story property either side of a single story property.
  6. Avoid a property that has trees higher on the right-hand side (looking out from the door) than the left-hand side.  This attacking energy can be remedied by cutting down the taller trees or placing a hanging basket on the left-hand side.
  7. Avoid a property that has trees touching the house; this will drain the house energy.  This can be remedied by cutting the trees away.
  8. Avoid a house that has an oversized garage, especially if the garage is set forward.  This is known as a ‘Big Mouth House’.  Below is an example, the front door is set back and the saying is ‘energy flows where the eye goes’.  When you look at this house you see the garage before you notice the front door making it difficult for energy to enter the property.  Living in a Big Mouth House will cause problems creating wealth and opportunities.  It can be helped by lighting up the front door (but not the garage doors).  Placing pretty plants along a pathway with lights to move the attention from the garage, showing the way to the door.  I personally would avoid purchasing a house like this.
  9. Be mindful of a house with a missing area.  Check what area is missing by placing the Lo Shui square over the floor plan.  Take a compass reading to find out the direction of the front door to determine this.  Missing areas can be remedied once you know where they are.
  10. Avoid buying a property where the land at the back slopes away.  Your finances will do the same.  You could plant trees here for support and light up this area to try and help the problem, but I personally would avoid rather than try to remedy it.

INTERIOR FENG SHUI TIPS

  1. Avoid a property that has a bathroom above the front door.
  2. If you can see a church steeple from any window, this is a poison arrow and can be bad for your health; this can be remedied by hanging a crystal in the window.
  3. If the kitchen sink and cooker are opposite each other, this can cause conflict; this is something that can be remedied by hanging a crystal from the ceiling between the two areas.
  4. Ideally, avoid a property that has a kitchen at the front of the house close to the front door, or in the center of the house.
  5. Avoid a property that has a bathroom directly opposite the front door.  The energy would enter your home and head straight down the pan/toilet.
  6. If the property has a door that opens up with a staircase directly ahead, then the energy won’t flow around the house like it should.  It will go straight up the stairs.  Quite often you will find there is a bathroom at the top of the stairs, this would mean the energy would enter, head up the stairs and down the pan/toilet.  This can be remedied by hanging a crystal at the foot of the stairs to divert the energy around the house.
  7. Avoid buying a house which is the open plan so that on entering you can see straight out into the backyard.  The energy will enter the house and go straight out the back.  This can be remedied by blocking the view out of the back by placing a screen or building a wall to block the view.
  8. Avoid a bedroom where you have to sleep above the kitchen and your bed will be above the sink or oven or share the same wall as the oven.  This would drain your energy.
  9. Avoid a house with a bedroom that has fitted wardrobes leaving only one option for your bed position which would be on the other side of a bathroom wall, sharing the wall with a toilet.
  10. Avoid a house with a fireplace in the North, North West, West or South East of your living room.  This fire element can have a detrimental effect on these particular sectors.
