Is everyone looking for change lately? Several of my clients have been inquiring about making major changes in their careers and other areas of their personal lives. Many are saying that they don’t want to go back to an old job or that they’re confused about their life’s purpose. We all want personal fulfillment and inner happiness, but before we can achieve that, we must find balance in our lives.
It seems like the entire world is out of balance. And, therefore, we too are out of balance. Is this because we’ve forgotten about the resources the pandemic left us without and therefore don’t recognize where the stress is coming from that’s causing our lives to tilt out of balance? Or are we just too preoccupied with blaming others or some other life circumstance beyond our control to see what’s causing the turmoil?
Collectively, we’re all moving toward the same thing. As humans, it’s our nature to seek to be at the center of our own lives. Therefore, the balance we seek comes from carving out time for ourselves as we process and assimilate to the events taking place around us. Yet sometimes we feel conflicted because we also sense an innate responsibility to look out for others.
Some of us spend so much time taking care of others that we neglect our own needs. And then we complain that we’re overwhelmed, overworked, and unfulfilled. And then there’s hard work. Society encourages it. But we must ask, are we enjoying the work we’re doing? And, are we being fulfilled by it? Look at the balance between your work and play. Are you giving yourself enough time to play and relax? Or are you living the life of a martyr? If so, realize you have a choice and seek the balance you need.
Change creates ripples that affect everything we do. If we are to be there for others and also do the work we were designed to do, whatever it is, we must first look closely at our own needs to see what’s out of balance. Sure, we’re all here to look out for one another, but if we ourselves aren’t happy, then we’re not in the right place to help others find their own happiness. Remember, when mama’s happy, everybody’s happy.
