Have you ever noticed that His Holiness the Dalai Lama always looks like he is smiling? He always has a twinkle in his eyes. Eliezer Sobel wrote in The 99th Monkey, a very humorous account of his search for enlightenment, “I opted for the teacher with the biggest twinkle, which I still believe is a very good gauge of spiritual teachers.”
He hit the nail on the head.
The twinkle in the eyes is it. It’s what you acquire when you reach inner peace, when compassion flows through you, when your fears no longer get the better of you, when you are content, when you are comfortable being You, when you’ve got nothing to prove and everything to give, when everything is the way it’s supposed to be, and when you no longer take yourself too seriously.
That’s what I want.
