How to Awaken to the Soul

“Intuition is the whisper of the Soul” – Jiddu Krishnamurti

Life right now for many of us can feel chaotic and difficult. It can feel like you are being constantly bombarded by the endless stream of negativity via news and social media. But within this darkness, there is also a massive shift occurring. It is happening within us all. Within our own hearts and minds, we are starting to ask the deeper questions around why we are here? What is our purpose? A sense of urgency is calling us to delve deeper into our hearts and connect to our souls in order to find the truth.

In this blog, we will be looking at what the soul is, how to connect to your soul and to find a daily practice that supports you.

What Is the Soul?

Your soul is who you truly are on a deeper level. It is the very unique essence of you that resides within your heart center. Your soul does not reside in the same time/space that we are aware of but is within a space of infinite possibility and wisdom. For me personally, I feel as if my soul is my inner compass. Whenever I feel like I am off track or lost I connect to this deeper part of me which always leads me back to my highest self. I always loved Wayner Dyers quote:

“Begin to see yourself as a soul with a body rather than a body with a soul.”

When we connect to our souls we are aligning with our highest truth and purpose. We remember who we are and why we are here. The soul always seeks to go back to this truth and we know we are not in alignment when we feel stuck or confused about our next steps to take.

How To Connect To The Soul

1.   Practice Gratitude

Coming from a place of love and peace for where you are at present is a powerful way to align with your soul. Knowing and appreciating all that you have, even if right now you feel like you are not where you want to be, aligns you with a higher vibration. Noticing the beauty in each moment awakens your heart to your own potential and inner beauty. I try and practice gratitude on a daily basis and journaling is a great way to do this, especially before bed when your mind can more easily accept new ideas and insights.

2.   Breathe Into and Open Your Heart Centre

Within our hearts, we hold the potential and wisdom of the Universe. I remember learning from another Angel Teacher, Chrissie Astell (http://angellight.co.uk/) that when a caterpillar is transforming into a butterfly a very powerful gene is activated that begins this process. This gene is also found in the human heart showing that we have so much power within ourselves to transform and become who we are meant to be. A meditation I often use is to imagine that within your heart center is a beautiful bright light. As you breathe in, imagine this light expands and becomes bigger so that eventually it surrounds your whole being.

3.   Connect More With Nature

Our disconnection from the natural world has led to many of us feeling disconnected from ourselves. The world needs us to connect to it again. Spending more time in nature can heal your soul and bring you back to the present moment. So when you’re out for a walk to become present with your surroundings. Notice the birds singing in the trees, the noise of the wind and the feeling of your footsteps on the ground. As you become more centered you also slow down and appreciate where you are.

4.   Do More of What Lights You Up

Our souls often yearn to have a creative outlet so we can express ourselves in a way that is unique and brings us a sense of passion and happiness. We are here to not only learn but to enjoy life. If you don’t know what lights you up try not to overthink it. Imagine what you loved doing as a child. Did you love playing with animals? Spending time outdoors? Painting or drawing? As children, we automatically connect to our souls without questioning anything. You can also take time to journal and write down at least 10 things you love to do or would love to do more off. Make it a priority to do at least one thing on your list a week. It could be as small as taking your dog for a walk because as long as it makes you smile and feel happy within it is important.

5.   Connect To Your Intuition

Through our intuition, our soul speaks to us. This could be through gentle words of wisdom, an image of what you would love to be doing next or a sense of being guided. Our souls unlike our egos do not strive for attention or demand your time. Instead, it is a quiet loving voice that only speaks words of encouragement and love. For this reason, it can be harder to connect too our souls when our minds are busy or our egos have the driving seat. Which is why meditation is the best way to tune inward and connect to your soul. I try and spend a few minutes each day connecting. I often have a journal beside me so I can write down any important advice or inspiration that I need to act upon.

I hope this has helped you towards starting your own practice to connect to your soul. As I write this I am reminded of all the times my soul has guided me to the most beautiful path I could ever have envisioned for myself. For example, a few short months ago I was feeling stuck in my flat with my very active toddler and want to have a beautiful home closer to nature. By trusting my soul and intuition I took the guidance I was being given, sold my flat and I am now living in a sweet idyllic bungalow in the Scottish Borders surrounded by nature. I even have the beautiful cold fire I was imagining I would be sitting beside at night. By trusting our souls we start to create the life that we have always wanted. Your next step is only to believe that miracles can happen.
