Dear Deziree,
I became unemployed after being at a job for a lengthy amount of time and was out of work for over 3 months. I finally started a new job, which seemed like a Godsend at the time I began.
The problem for me is that while unemployed I finally found my passion and began working towards the career I really want to be in. I have been working both since and have been recently finding my frustration level with the “godsend” job increasing. The career I want to be in isn’t moving as quickly as I would like and the “Godsend” career is going too well as the supervisors love my work. I am really trying to be grateful for the income provided by Spirit during my transition, but I really want out of this place and am seriously trying to NOT do anything stupid as I need the income.
My question is this: How would you suggest I maintain my cool until I can complete my transition to the new career?

Dear “Freaking Out”,
Thank You for your very detailed question! I love that fact you have such a wonderful awareness of your situation and can see yourself in the third party role (the witness). Fantastic! Gratitude comes to mind, I know you stated how grateful you are about having the “Godsend” job and how it’s providing an income, but what does that really look like?
My suggestion would be to make a list of at least 10-20 things that would not be in your life without that “Godsend” job that is maintaining a certain standard of living that you have now. Would you be able to make your car payment if you had one? Are you going out socially with your soul tribe and able to afford to join them? How’s that roof over your head at night? Get it? Make a Gratitude list from the gift of the “Godsend” job. Also, make a list of what your life will be like once you achieve your goal of the career that brings you passion. What does that look like? Who are you with? Where do you live? What will you be doing then that you’re not doing now? How will your life be better?
Use both lists to fuel you when you’re tired or feeling negative about where you are now in life, remember it’s only a part of the story you live in. Our minds can take us many places based on our thoughts. The benefits of the career that you are passionate about should keep you motivated to spend as much extra time as you can spare to push through and keep the momentum going. The Gratitude list should also give you comfort that this “Godsend” job is here to provide what you need to live and take the pressure off you so you aren’t stressed about surviving.
Keep plugging away at it, as my best friend tells me, every day just do something in the direction of your dreams, the more you pick away at it, the closer you are to it becoming a reality. It’s true! I slowly transitioned out of my “Godsend” job and into my career of passion and looking back, I’m very grateful I had that job that provided for me and my family. It’s all worth it in the end. Don’t give up! Best wishes!
