KIMBERLY MASKA:   Welcome everybody, welcome to Spiritual Biz Chat for Spiritual Biz Magazine, and today we have joining us Andrea St. Amand, an evidential psychic medium. Welcome, Andrea, and thank you for being with us, how are you doing today?

ANDREA ST. AMAND:   I’m doing very well during these quieter times.  I actually feel more fulfilled and focused than I have for a long time.  It’s an added bonus to be talking with Spiritual Biz Magazine this afternoon!

KIMBERLY:   It’s a pleasure to have you here, Andrea! You come from various backgrounds: from physical performer and entertainer to corporate law partner and psychic medium. How does it all come to fit on your path to your current life’s purpose and work?

ANDREA:   It’s taken years to integrate all parts of myself, to be honest.

When I was dancing professionally, I constantly struggled against my body with injuries, weight, never fitting into tiny little costumes.  Yet, all of the struggles disappeared when I was on stage, so I persevered.  The injuries and cravingS for food eventually won out.

I didn’t know what to do with myself after I’d spent my entire life training for a professional stage career, so I went to college and majored in gothic literature.  Unfortunately, at the time, I had no vision of how I could turn my love of ghost stories into a career.

I continued onto law school and into a challenging and lucrative practice that allowed me to travel the globe.  Now, looking back, it seems like there was also a need in me to prove that I was smart, that I wasn’t a dumb showgirl.  I must say that no one, ever, treated me like that.  But I felt a constant need to prove I was as capable as my peers and could be taken seriously for my brain.

Meanwhile, there was a huge void.  My spiritual and creative sides were starving.

And I had this weird, secret obsession:  I could see and talk to spirit people.  Of course, that went squarely against my need to be taken seriously!  I’d sneak into the library after work, or secretly Google everything I could on psychics and mediumship, the history of spiritualism, ghost stories, anything paranormal or supernatural.

I studied under highly-skilled psychic and mediumship teachers and quietly practiced on any poor friend who’d allow me to read for them.  When I finally had enough nerve to step out of the “woo closet” and pursue this deep passion, my life took off like a rocket.  And when I started doing readings in front of a group of people, that aspect of my business took off even faster.

Suddenly, all aspects of myself merged.  My trained brain, my understanding of people’s complicated life problems, and my ability to command an audience, all came together.

KIMBERLY:   How interesting and inspiring! And how have you managed to turn your psychic and mediumship work into a business?

ANDREA:   The business side, believe it or not, is where I now find pure creative fun!

Coming from a legal practice, I’m very comfortable with the financial and paperwork sides of business.

But marketing had always been an intimidating black hole.  The funny thing is that I truly had a vision of myself somehow running a business where people magically “knew” about me, without me doing anything to get the word out.

Thankfully, I found you, Kimberly, and you taught me invaluable skills that are client-focused.  When I’m stuck with a marketing decision – or more often, when I feel shy to broach a topic publicly or afraid to try something new – I go back to a basic premise: “What I’m doing is not about me, it’s about serving other people.”  What deep truth have I experienced that someone out there needs to be acknowledged and validated right now?

It’s a great way for me to get out of my own way and to step out even when I’m quaking in my boots or floundering in self-doubt.

Another part of the fun, for me, is going with the unpredictable flow innate in entrepreneurship.  Some entrepreneurs go positively crazy when they can’t control every aspect of their business, particularly with online marketing, email spam filters, and social media algorithms changing by the minute, it seems.

But to me, the unpredictable nature of marketing, of how to reach people effectively, means showing up creatively on a constant basis, delivering the best services every single day that I can possibly deliver, tuning into what I feel needs to be expressed . . . it means I’m never bored.

And oddly, it then feels like I’m simply creating content that inspires me and voila! Clients appear on my calendar.

KIMBERLY:   I’m sure you get asked this a lot, but while working with people in deep grief with loss of a loved one,  how do you manage to not get overwhelmed with the people’s grief or problems? Where do you find your peace and replenish your energy?

ANDREA:   Let me be the first one to acknowledge that I am stupidly empathic.  Stupidly!  Meaning, I really take on other people’s painful emotions, to a fault.  I’ve done a lot of work mastering my empathy, so I can alleviate the burden of others while not weighing myself down in the process.

Along the way, I learned that any authentic expression of deep emotion is never overwhelming to me.  Once an emotion is given a voice, acknowledged, and honored, it becomes less overbearing.  So I’ve grown very comfortable holding sacred space for clients to share their deepest grief, frustrations, confusion, anger, you name it.

The number one trick for me is to know exactly what I can and cannot control.  The world is largely out of our control.  Other humans and their emotions and reactions are out of our control.  Know that.

What is supremely within the control of every single person is how we choose to act and react, and how we choose to honor our soul’s desired expression while we’re here.  That’s it.

KIMBERLY:   Andrea, what is your ultimate goal with your work? What is your mission? Your dream? What are some projects that are on your mind and that you are currently working on?

ANDREA:   My mission is to connect clients with the souls of their loved ones and pets, and with their very own souls.  In that process, we can view life and our struggles from different perspectives.  Tremendous self-acceptance, healing, and wisdom can be accessed which is life-changing.

There are a few new projects already launched and a few more on the way.  First, I’m a co-hostess on a podcast, Magical Mystical Journeys, where each episode features a spiritual “Being”

We introduce the Being, such as a well-known saint or an angel, and discuss the historical context along with the good, the bad, and the ugly, recognizing that there are some sainted icons that have triggered a lot of negative connotations in our society!  I channel messages from the Being, and we guide listeners through a meditation to develop their own relationship with the energies of that figure.

The podcast is nitty-gritty in that we’re seeking to facilitate a richer, fuller understanding of our existence here, on Earth, in all its messy glory.  We don’t advocate spiritual escapism or pull punches, and we don’t expect listeners – or ourselves – to resonate with each Being.  I think it’s fair to say each of the three of us co-hostesses have surprised ourselves with the development of the podcast!

I also have a few short writing projects in the works.  One seeks to expose grief and the myriad ways it appears in real examples.  Many of my clients suffer through iterations of grief that aren’t widely discussed, so they have no idea whatsoever that what they’re experiencing is perfectly normal.

Another piece is my answer to the most soft-uttered sentence from my coaching clients, “I don’t know what I want!” So I’m creating an article and guide to walk folks through acceptance of their deepest desires – without shame!

KIMBERLY:   Is there a final message you want to let our readers know? Or just any last little words that you have for them?

ANDREA:   I believe we’re here to experience fully-expressed lives, beyond even our wildest imaginings.  Yet so many of us feel there’s something taboo about wanting too much, asking for too much, experiencing the miracle of communicating with the spirit world, or hearing a firm message from your higher self.

My work is proof that everyday magic is real and accessible – and the time to welcome it into your life is right now.

KIMBERLY:   So inspiring, Andrea, thank you for this! And if our readers wanted to reach you, where can they find you?

ANDREA:   You can find me on my website www.andreasaintamand.com and Facebook www.facebook.com/andreasaintamand. You can also listen to the Magical Mystical Journeys podcast on https://linktr.ee/magicalmysticaljourneyspod.

KIMBERLY:   Thank you, Andrea, very much! It has been such a pleasure chatting with you today!

ANDREA:   The pleasure is all mine, for sure.  It is a true honor to be with you here today!
