Are you confusing personal success with business success? They are two very, very different things and if you confuse them, one or both will suffer.
Allow me to illustrate this for you. Personal success is when you feel great, you feel fulfilled and you have joy daily. Business success is when you are making profit, preferably boat loads of profit. However, you can feel crappy and unhappy when making boatloads of profit. So if you tie one to the other, you are stalling out your success.
There are many ways to achieve personal success and I highly recommend aiming for it and I am not going to address some ways to do so in this article. Instead, let’s talk business success.
Business success is a numbers game. That is it. Numbers. Know them, love them, increase them. Sounds simple right? Yes if you have a strategy. If you have a clear, intelligent, profit oriented business strategy then you have more time to yourself and money (nudge, nudge) to work on that personal success.
Being in the Complementary Medicine Industry filled with Energy Workers and Spiritually orientated people you will hear them talk about being in alignment, mercury is in retrograde, it is an auspicious time, blah, blah, blah. However, ask them about their business and the numbers and they draw a blank stare like they are on some sort of magical meditative unicorn ride in clouds of cotton candy.
This is because they have confused personal success with business success. If you don’t know your numbers, you don’t have a plan or a target to increase, double, triple or quadruple those numbers then you don’t have a business. You have a bump along career where you attempt to convince yourself that the universe will provide. And it will. Exactly what you asked from it. Nada. Nothing. More bump alongs.
Then universe and various other spiritual leaders will tell you – ask and you shall receive. How well you ask determines how well you receive. So if you know your numbers and you ask the universe to assist you with those numbers – go purchase yourself a truck for the boatloads of profit that you will be making.
So great, you need to know numbers. What kind of numbers? Well let me illuminate those for you.
What is your outgoing expenses? Include everything, include a 10% emergency fund and a 10% just for me, just for fun fund. You can find all kinds of free templates and spreadsheets online to get you going.
What money do you have coming in?
What is the gap? What extra do you require to bring in to live the life you truly desire? How much more “profit” do you need to bring in to create that?
Now that you have your profit number what is required in sales to create that profit? Once you have that number you have a target to work towards. Everyday ask what would it take to achieve that target? More advertising, networking, a new program, a sale, a flyer drop, smoke signals, chanting under a new moon? Seriously scratch those last tow – they don’t work.
Once you have those numbers then you have your other targets and then a strategy will come together. Then you are choosing business success and if you personally feel awesome at the same time. Good on you.
Spend the time to work this out for you it is critical. Have fun and love the numbers! They will be your greatest inspiration and motivation to fast track your business success.
