How to Tap into Your Creative Power

“The desire to create is one of the deepest yearnings of the human soul.” — Dieter F. Uchtdorf

As a child I would spend hours in wonder, daydreaming magical visions and spending time in nature. As children, we have no impressions or belief systems imprinted on us yet. To see through the eyes of a young child is truly a wondrous and magical gift.

But then we go to school. And that childlike wonder starts to disappear and is instead replaced with thoughts such as “am I good enough?” and “how can I get everyone to like me?” But we never lose that magic that is within us all. It is just hidden, beneath layers of self-doubt and fear.

But I believe when we tap into our creative side, we are tapping into our purpose. It can help us understand our purpose in the world, what our passion is and how we can light the world up with our gifts. In this blog, I will be sharing some of the ways you can tap into your creative spark so that you can share your gifts with the world.

Understand Your Blocks

For creativity to flow we need to gain a deeper understanding of our own blocks in order to overcome them. The biggest block I’ve personally faced is trying to reach out or find the answer through logic. As if I’m trying to work out a maths question (and I hate maths). This logical thinking process can hold us back.

The answer to all our questions comes from within. But our ego-mind cannot understand this so instead tries to work out a problem through a step by step process that actually makes you feel like your going round in circles. Knowing what your blocks are is the first step to releasing that control and allowing your intuition to flow.

Creative Journalling

Being free to write down everything that comes into your mind is a powerful tool to help unlock creative blocks and get you into the flow. We hold so much information within our minds it can feel so jumbled up when we try and link in with an idea. A good way to start journaling is to write for 10 minutes every morning everything that comes into your head. All your thoughts, ideas, emotions, what you want the day ahead to look like, your to-do lists…everything you can think of, write it down. By doing this you are resetting your mind and your energy to start the day off on a fresh blank slate.

Visualization Meditation

Meditation is a powerful tool to help you tap into your truest and highest potential. A powerful meditation you can do on a daily basis is creative visualization. All you need to do is take some deep breathes into your heart space and allow your body to relax. Listen to some deeply relaxing music such as binaural beats or music where you can hear ocean waves. Take a few moments to really relax into your body and breathe into any spaces of tension or soreness. Then allow your mind to wander.

Imagine where you are in a year’s time, notice what you are doing, what location are you at? What do your surroundings look like? How are you feeling? Just allow the mind to wander and dream a reality that, although has not happened yet, is in the peripheral of your subconscious. By doing this you are tapping into a deeper aspect of your self. You are creating a vision, one that is aligned with your highest self. And when we do this meditation regularly we start taking steps towards that dream.

Self Care

Creativity can also be blocked when we are trying to do too much at once. In today’s society, we are rewarded for being more busy, more productive and always on the go. But so much guilt can come up when we slow down and focus on our own bodies, our own energy. I am the first to admit I am a workaholic.

So slowing down can feel challenging. But when we allow ourselves the time and space to connect to our bodies and our souls, whether that is through reading a good book, doing yoga, going for a walk or even doing nothing but allowing our minds to wander, we become more productive. We stop getting in our own way and we allow the Universe to flow through us rather than against us. So take time out for you. This is probably one of the most important ways we can tap into our intuition.
