5 Ways to Get Inspired

Do you ever have a hard time coming up with ideas for your marketing? You know you should be posting on Facebook, updating your Instagram feed, or writing that new blog post to promote your business today.

But somehow, you just can’t think of anything to say. It all feels sticky, and the harder you try, the more uninspired you get.

We all have moments in business when ideas aren’t flowing as easily as we’d like. Having our ups and downs is completely human.

Yet, consistency is important in business. It takes a certain amount of regular effort to create and maintain sustainable success.

Fortunately, getting back into your inspired flow isn’t as difficult as it may seem. With the right tools and techniques, you can actively cultivate inspiration rather than needing to force or wait for it.

Sound great? Here are 5 of my favourite ways to get inspired:

How to Get Inspired: 5 Favourite Tips + Tools

1. Go and do something else! Yep, that’s right. The thing about inspiration is that it requires you to be in receiving mode. And that can’t happen while you’re sitting in front of your computer straining to find that next brilliant idea. Instead, take a break. Give your mind something else to focus on. The more you can let go of the pressure to get inspired now, the easier it gets.

2. Get moving. When you’re feeling mentally stuck, this often means that your entire system is energetically clogged up. Therefore, moving your body is one of the fastest and most effective ways to get back into your flow. Get out in nature. Go for a walk. Dance to your favourite music. Whatever it takes! As you’re moving physically, you’ll find that inspiration flows more effortlessly, too.

3. Breathe. Take a moment to become aware of how your breath is flowing in and out of your body. When we’re stressed, most of us don’t breathe properly, which hinders the energy flow in your mind and body. To unblock your flow, breathe deeply and consciously. For best results, check in with yourself regularly, and make conscious breathing part of a daily meditation practice so you don’t forget.

4. Read, watch, or listen to inspiring content. I don’t know about you, but I often get the most amazing inspiration while I’m reading a great article or watching an interesting video on YouTube. Regularly consuming relevant content created by others keeps your supply of new ideas fresh, and your mind won’t get stuck in stagnant thought patterns. Remember to make this a conscious practice rather than simply scrolling your newsfeed on autopilot. (The latter can make your mind muddy rather than boosting your inspiration.)

5. Keep an idea list. While inspiration takes patience at times, there are also moments when ideas flow freely, and you may even feel overwhelmed by the amount of inspiration that’s coming through. If you’re a creative soul like me, you probably know what that feels like! When you have amazing ideas that you can’t put into action right away, put them on a list for later. Next time you’re having a hard time thinking of something to write or talk about, go back to your list, and you’ll be buzzing with inspiration in no time!
