Upside-Down Speaker, Bestselling Author, Message Strategist, and Messenger Coach Amanda Johnson helps messengers (aspiring and struggling speakers, authors, and coaches) rewrite their stories from lies to love and change their world with their own powerful messages.
After years of engaging, clarifying, and helping others develop powerful messages (as a Student, a Teacher, and a Master Writing Coach), Amanda uncovered her own.
The decision to share it with the world launched her on a journey of personal and professional transformation that quickly made her limited life unrecognizable. Realizing how powerful a Message can be – not only for the audience, but for the Messenger – Amanda integrated everything she’d learned from some of the world’s most outstanding educators, powerful transformational coaches, and heart-centered business experts, and grew a powerful, profitable brand around her Butterfly Approach to Writing, Speaking, and Training in just a few short years.
She not only facilitated more than a dozen books from Inspiration to Impact, and several of those to Amazon Bestseller and award-winning status, but she helped those Messengers heal their old stories and develop their capacity to help others.
Today, she is helping others clarify their core message, uncover their divine brand to make it memorable, and share it with readers and audiences in a way that facilitates real internal change and obvious results in their lives. But, more importantly, she helps them become powerful Messengers, who know how, and more importantly, have the capacity, to deliver their message and build powerful, profitable brands and businesses WITHOUT compromising their health, their sanity, or their soul.
In 2013, Amanda FINALLY wrote her own book Upside-Down Mommy… in less than 3 weeks… and published and made it an Amazon Bestseller in less than 2 months. In it, she shares The Butterfly Approach philosophy responsible for her successes as a parent, wife, messenger, and coach.
INTERVIEW HIGHLIGHTS
Kimberly: What do you think are the specific marketing challenges that you face and you see your clients face on a daily basis?
Amanda: Here is something that really frustrates me because when I started growing my business it was all organically, all through referrals, all through “You should go speak over there,” speaking somewhere and getting leads. Then there comes a point in the business where you start getting coached by people who are saying, “All you need to do is…,” and they start to present you with formulas. I like formulas, I use them to write books, there is something in having structure and framework to something that is really important.
But there is also something when we are on this path of not just putting our message into the world, it is like our soul expression where we can get lost in formulas. I am working this formula but I am not listening to my gut anymore that says, “I do not like this part of the formula.” Then I throw out that entire formula and six of the seven steps were great, it was number four that was bad. I kind of see that being one of the main challenges: people try to use other people’s formulas or develop the perfect one before they start.
Kimberly: There are so many and they come at you from every direction. Even when I am working with my clients, I have my ideas and my formulas because I know what works from a business perspective but I always have to stop and ask my clients, “How does that feel for you? Here is what I think should happen, but how does that feel for you?” I do not want to make them feel like they have to do something if it is not what they want to do. The lessons we learn!
As an entrepreneur creating your business what is a piece of software that you use and would recommend to your clients and people you work with when they are starting their business?
Amanda: The first thing that comes to mind and it seems really silly, but if you are going to do anything, you need something like Microsoft Office. That is silly for me to say but there are so many people who do not have something that is so normal amongst professionals. There is also time spent on everything. But my CRM system has really helped me automate everything. The scheduling calendar saves me hours of back and forth emails. It is relatively new and called Green Rope. It also has project management and appointment booking, so it takes a bunch of systems and puts them into one. My assistant has an MBA, and she is just like, “This is the most amazing tool I have ever seen!”
