Here in the UK, we are welcoming in our spring season. This is a wonderful time for us to start renovations, spring cleaning, and general home maintenance.
If you are planning to renovate your home this year, you should be mindful of the energy in some sectors of your home. The areas you should avoid performing major renovations to are the North, Northeast, and the Center due to the negative energies that reside there. Hammering, drilling, digging, or knocking down walls could aggravate the negative energies so it is best to keep these areas as quiet as possible. Please try not to use the rooms in these sectors, I know this is not always ideal so maybe only use occasionally if you can.
If you want to do a full house renovation or build an extension this year then please don’t panic, my suggestion for the best way of doing this to reduce aggravating the sectors with the major afflictions would be to begin your renovation or extension in a sector with auspicious energy, then work around your home, finishing also in a sector with auspicious energy. See below a chart showing where you should and should not renovate and the best sectors to start and finish.
How to find out where each sector falls in your home
Using the floor plan of your home or business, measure the width and length of your property & divide your floor plan into 9 equal squares. Place the above Lo Shu Square over your floor plan (see example below). If your entrance door faces east, you should mark the square your door falls into as the East sector and then mark all the other sectors accordingly. Use a compass to determine the direction of your front door, you can do this by standing at the threshold of your entrance door (looking out) and taking the compass reading. See the example of how to do this below.
My friend was planning a house extension two years ago, and even though I warned her about the areas she should avoid working on that year, she decided to go ahead anyway; she said she knew deep down it was not the best decision. She started the work in an auspicious area, but unfortunately, it was not possible to end in an auspicious area due to the house layout. Everything was great, to begin with, but then lots of things went wrong. Many jobs had to be redone due to bad workmanship, her roof lantern had a leak when it rained and they could not find out where the leak was coming from, plus there were lots of delays with materials and builders. Thankfully it is all finished now, and it looks beautiful, but it did cause her a lot of stress.
If renovations are not on your agenda, then it is always a good time to do some general maintenance on your home or property or finish those unfinished projects. I encourage you to walk around your property paying attention, and with a critical eye carefully make a list of all the things that need to be repaired. Make a plan, focussing on one project at a time. I have made a list of things for you to check below to help get you started…
Does the exterior of your home need any maintenance?
- Is the paintwork in good condition?
- Do your gutters need cleaning out?
- Are your drains clear?
- Check your roof tiles.
- Are there any trees touching your home?
- Have you got climbing ivy on the walls of your home?
- Does your garden look cared for?
The appearance of a house and garden on approach is so very important. A house in disrepair is a big no in feng shui, it can attract negative energy. Ensure your home is clean, in good repair, and attractive to the eye. If you do have trees touching your home, then please trim them back as soon as possible otherwise they will drain the energy from your home; cut down any ivy too. Don’t let your trees and bushes become overgrown, keep them trim and neat.
Check your kitchen and bathroom for leaks
- Check all your pipes, your faucets, and your drains.
Leaking water represents loss; this could be loss of health or income. It is essential that you protect both your health and your income. If you do have a leak, then your money could literally be going down the drain. I recommend you fix this issue as a priority. Also, unblock any blockages in your drains and keep a check on them regularly as blockages could have a direct impact on your finances, your career, or your life in general. A blockage in any area of your life or home can be troublesome.
Window Checklist
- Are your windows clean and gleaming?
- Have your double-glazed units failed? E.g., They have become cloudy or foggy between the panes of glass.
- Are your sills clean, painted, free of webs, and in good condition?
Your windows are the window to your future; keep them clear so you can see what is ahead. If your windows are misty, then replace the units. Clean them regularly to keep your vision clear and clear away any webs. TIP: If you are struggling with a decision or problem, cleaning your windows inside and out somehow clears your mind. Try it; it works for me every time!
How does your home look and feel to you?
- Do you love your home?
- Look around for any paintwork that needs refreshing.
Your home should feel welcoming with a clear entrance so the energy can enter freely. Paint and repair any items you have found that need attention while walking around your home.
A home that is clean and well maintained attracts positive energy which is great feng shui!
