Who am I?
Is this all there is to life?
These are two questions we begin to ask ourselves as we begin to evolve spiritually. This is when we begin to truly examine our lives and our physical being in order to bring balance and reconnect with the divine source within.
It’s important for us to realize that we are spiritual beings clothed in flesh, sent forth into the universe to bring light to those who are in darkness. We are traveling through this physical plane to do great works, just like others who have gone before us like Jesus Christ, Buddha, Martin Luther Luther King, Jr., Princess Dianna, Maya Angelou, John Lennon and many more.
Spiritual awareness is coming into the knowledge of who you really are. The person that you see each morning when you look into the mirror is not the real you.
I will never forget an assignment that I had while attending the southwest institute of healing arts in Tempe, Arizona. The assignment was for us to take a mirror, hold it up and gaze into our eyes in order to see into our souls.
As I gazed into the mirror I was shocked to discover that there was a living soul behind my eyes. It was frightening to me, Even though I knew that I was a spiritual being, I had never looked closely into my eyes to the point of realizing that there was something greater living on the inside of me. I’ll be honest with you, it scared me to the point that I almost dropped the mirror. That simple exercise truly awakened me.
Spiritual awareness empowers us and allows us to understand that the power that we possess is unlimited. When we become spiritually aware we understand that there is no obstacle to enormous for us to overcome. Although I spent many years in the church, read scriptures and spent countless hours in prayer, I never truly understood the power that I possessed until I began my spiritual journey toward awareness.
After spending countless hours in church, I realized that I needed more. Deep within me, there was a yearning to know more about God. I decided to lay aside all of the things that I had been doing in the past, and I decided that I would be still and allow the spirit of God within me to speak because my soul was hungering for more.
There is a portion of scripture found in Psalm 42:7; “deep calls unto deep” This Passage of Scripture describes the beginning of my spiritual awakening process. The deep things of God were calling out to me in a way that I could not ignore.
Intimacy with God is found in the realm of the spirit. Spiritually, our process of awareness involves tapping into a deeper dimension of divine presence. It involves longing, thirsting, and seeking. Becoming spiritually aware enables us to really commune with the Divine on a deeper level. It’s the only way we can expand and grow.
I am grateful for what religion has taught me but I am even more grateful for the cries of my soul, which led me to where I am today. I am spiritually aware of a Higher Power that dwells within me and I realize that I can do all things because of the greater one that lives within.
