The still point of breath has always been my favorite point; breathing neither in nor out, feeling the gentle fullness and gentle anticipation. It is my happiest place. Life has so many of these still points, and they are the best opportunities to come back to center.
The holidays are a big time of externalization. There is sensory overload with family, friends, excesses of delicious foods (and usually wine…), gifts being shared and money changing hands faster than at any other time of year. And then, immediately thereafter, there is a symmetrical reverberation of health and wellness as well as mindfulness reminders, particularly with the coming of a new calendar year. This second onslaught is an attempt to balance one type of excess with another.
Where is the still point? Where is your focus? Where is your space for quiet?
The answer is always within yourself. And the truth is that what is moving you will be different than what is moving the person (likely many people at this time) next to you. If ever there was a time to take five, ten, fifteen minutes to yourself every morning when you wake up and every night before you sleep; if ever there was a time to dedicate yourself to yourself and your various practices, this is it.
Your dedication is your still point. It is your gentle fullness and gentle anticipation, it is your anchor ready to be lifted once the fog lifts or the party ends. It is the thing no one talks about – the steady consistency, your evening cup of chamomile tea, your friend who respects your space and simply calls to chat instead of running ragged with events.
The benefits of your dedication will only amplify in these times. You will be receptive to all the wonders and joys of the unusual amount of things and activity around you, you will also be that much more mindful when you notice the amazing new health, wellness, and spiritual insights and techniques that bubble up. In fact, you will likely be leading the latter, and your inspiration may come through stronger than ever because you can actually be energized by the holiday festivities. This is true for introverts and extroverts, every zodiac sign (and combination), every Myers-Briggs type and Human Design type.
I suppose this is a reflection on the quietness of self-love. It is also a supreme appreciation for that quiet world within from which all creation springs forth. And in a simpler, more tangible way, it is a loving moment of connecting with the centers and still points that harmonize daily moments.
Many joys and blessings this holiday season and ever beyond!
